William Vaughn
Funeral Time: Friday, November 24th at 9:45AM William L. Vaughn, 93, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023. Born March 21,1930, in Wellsville, MO, Bill was the son of Ethel and Hallie Vaughn and is survived by his wife of 74+ years, Helen Elaine (Keefauver) Vaughn, children: William B. Vaughn of Hendersonville, TN, Victoria E. Vaughn of Lexington, Vincent D. Vaughn of Lexington, and Mary Frances (Vaughn) Jeffrey of Palm Desert, CA. Siblings include Merle Yelton (deceased), Doris Gilson of Canton, IL, Zella Landis (deceased), Shirley McCann of Macomb, IL, Betty Maccanelli of Farmington, IL, and Larry Vaughn of Pekin, IL. Grandchildren include Sacha Bennett of Florence, AL; Sara Vaughn of Hendersonville, TN; Nicholas Jeffrey of Lexington, and Lauren Jeffrey of Colorado Springs, CO. The Vaughns have four great-grandchildren: Miles Bennett, Jackson Bennett, Charlie Vaughn Ostrander, and Fitzy John Ostrander.
Bill started his career with Truax Traer Coal Co in central Illinois after high school graduation and after several company takeovers, was relocated to Pinckneyville, IL; Price, UT; Denver, CO, and Chesterfield, MO, where he retired as the Western Region Safety Director for CONSOL after a 35-year career. Upon retirement, the Vaughns spent time in Ft. Myers, FL, and Canton, IL, before settling full-time in Lexington.
His hobbies and passions included most sports (especially golf), watercolor painting, woodworking and refinishing, eating breakfast and lunch out, playing Boggle and Cribbage, being part of the men’s group at South Elkhorn Christian Church in Lexington and was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Bill was very competitive and had a great sense of humor!
A memorial service will be held at 9:45 am Friday, November 24, at Kerr Brothers, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington. Visitation will be from 9:00-9:45am with service immediately following. A graveside service will be held at the Fiatt Cemetery in Fiatt, IL, spring of 2024.
