Robert Tighe
Robert (Bob) James Tighe was born on September 30, 1938 in Sunnyside, NY to Michael James Tighe and Catherine Mullen Tighe. He died peacefully at his home in Lexington, KY on February 11, 2023. Bob was a proud first generation Irish New Yorker who spent his youth in Flushing. He was also a proud graduate of Fordham Prep and Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service. Bob was honored to be accepted into the Inaugural Class of John F. Kennedy’s Peace Corp. Bob worked as a Teacher on Long Island before taking on a role with IBM in Human Resources. In 1974 he was excited to relocate to Lexington where he raised his 3 children and continued to work with IBM and teach at various colleges around KY. Bob was a lover and supporter of the arts, traveling, he loved the beach, riding horses, reading books, gardening and classical music. He knew every composer and was known for having NPR on full blast at all times. His favorite game was always Trivial Pursuit which he would win every time, much to the dismay of others. If you met Bob you immediately knew he was very cultured, witty and fun! He and his wife Jeanne were active members of the Lexington Philharmonic and Lexington Ballet Board for years. Bob and Jeanne were both honored to be Kentucky Colonels. Bob was proceeded in death by his wife of 53 years Jeanne Powell Tighe and his brother Thomas Edward Tighe of Massapequa, NY. Bob is survived by his sister, Maureen Tighe Renfroe of St. Petersburg, FL and his 3 children, Robert James Tighe II, Alicia Tighe Cox (Blake) and Brendan Powell Tighe and his 2 grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Cox and Bennett Powell Cox all of Lexington. A private service will be held at the Lexington Cemetery in the coming weeks. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road in care of final arrangement details.
