Funeral Time: Thursday, January 5th at 11:00AM Patrick “Pat” Houston McDermott, 75, beloved husband, dad, and grandpapa, died in the early morning of December 28, 2022 at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital surrounded by his family. Pat was born on September 2, 1947 to the late Fred and Helen McDermott in Paris, KY. He grew up with his sister, Mary Nell, two brothers, Barry and Ricky, and an eclectic bunch of animals. He attended the University of Kentucky where he then became an associate professor in the College of Dentistry. There he met the love of his life, Donna Gayle Manning. Pat and Donna married in 1980 and over the next 42 years built a beautiful life and family together. They opened the McDermott Dental Laboratory in 1992 and operated the business until Pat’s retirement. Their family includes three children– Timothy (Tiffany) McDermott, Lydia Gohmann, and Caroline (Colin) Wilkerson, grandchildren– Caitlin and Collin, SIL– Lori Manning, as well as many beloved pets – most recently, schnauzers Roxy and Ringo. Aside from his career and devotion to his family, Pat will be remembered for his beautiful wood carvings, delicious salsa, grand storytelling, his passion for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, many Friday nights working the chain gang at Lexington Catholic High School football games, and Sunday mornings working as an usher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Church. Funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lexington, KY, with burial to follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lexington Humane Society.
