Mildred “Mickey” Amelia Desmond Wachs, wife of 69 years to Robert “Bob” Wachs, passed into Paradise on May 2, 2022. She was born July 3, 1932 in Lexington, KY to the late Leonard J. and Hettie Deering Desmond. Mickey graduated from Lafayette High School and attended the University of Kentucky. Mickey and Bob were married on June 7, 1952. She was sealed for all eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Salt Lake Temple on June 7, 1973. She enjoyed teaching young children in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 18 years. She had been employed at numerous jobs including Thomas Huston Photo Finishing and Pemberton’s Green House. Her favorite job was working with children, from early years of baby sitting to running a nursery in her home. She enjoyed travel, having visited 48 states and a good bit of Canada, where she has 18 first cousins. She enjoyed camping, hiking and all kinds of crafts. Survivors other than her husband Bob include four children, Cheryl Elizabeth (David) Wurlele, Teresa Lynn (Donald) Neighbors, Helen Lorraine (Lloyd) Allred and Robert Douglas (Shawna) Wachs. There are eleven grandchildren with eight spouses; twenty great grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn (Stanley) Powell of Fort Worth, TX. Mickey chose cremation and a private committal service will be held at the family plot in the Lexington Cemetery. There will be a Memorial Service held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Alumni Drive in Lexington on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. is in charge of all arrangements.
