Richard L. Maynard
Richard L. Maynard, age 82 of Lexington, beloved husband of 63 years to Ruth Ann Maynard, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born May 3, 1939 in Pike County, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas and Helen Smith Maynard. Richard was retired from the Lexington Herald-Leader, where he served in many capacities over his 30 plus year career. Richard was affiliated his entire life with the newspaper business, starting at a young age as a paper boy delivering papers. As young adults, he and his brother started their own printing business until they sold the business and went in different directions. He will be remembered for his attention to details whether it be tending to his perfectly manicured lawn with not a piece of grass out of place, or the Christmas and Halloween decorations he put out every season. Richard was a very handy man who could do anything and everything. He was faithfully devoted to his children, grandchildren and especially his wife, whom he adored. Richard also loved his boat and his outings on Lake Cumberland every summer cruising. And just so you know, his favorite color was purple polka dot. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Cindy Maynard of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Chancie Logan Maynard, Josh Maynard, Haley Jones, Mick Maynard, and Karly Craig. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Maynard. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road is in care of arrangements.
