Paul W. Evans, DMD
Paul W. Evans, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital on Leestown Road, Lexington, KY on Friday June 25, 2021, at the age of 98 with his beloved daughters Sally and Ann by his side. He was born March 12, 1923 in Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret Boll Evans; his parents Proctor and Neva Meade Evans; his sister Dr. Evalyn G. Evans and infant brother James Meade Evans. Paul grew up in the coal mining town of Lynch, KY, where his father was a dentist. He graduated from Lynch High School in the class of 1941. He attended the University of Louisville until entering the Navy in 1943. Paul married the love of his life in 1945 before being sent overseas to Okinawa, where he remained until honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return he enrolled in the College of Dentistry at the University of Louisville, where he graduated with highest honors in 1948. After graduation, Paul joined his father to practice dentistry in Ashland, KY until his retirement. He and Margaret spent most of their lives in Ashland, KY where they were members of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. In 1995 he and Margaret moved to Lexington to be closer to their daughters and their families. While in Lexington they attended Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Paul was an avid golfer, traveler, and lifelong fan of the University of Kentucky sports (mostly football and basketball). He was the life of any party. Survivors include two daughters, Sally Fensterer (Tom) and Ann Penney (Jim); grandchildren, Alec Fensterer (Lindsay), Evan Smith (Dr. Megan) and Claire Smith. Also, a niece Johanna Evans King and nephew Jonathan Evans along with a host of extended family. “Well done my good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:21. A celebration of Paul’s life, open to friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 25 from 1-3 pm at The Woodlands at 111 Woodland Avenue, Lexington, KY 40502. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church DOC in Ashland, KY, Central Christian Church DOC in Lexington, KY or Mercy Ships at www.mercyships.org.
