James Gibson Wilhite, MD, 87, passed away Feb 12, 2020. Jim was born in Paintsville, KY Jan 5, 1933 to Bob Wilhite and Opal Gibson Wilhite. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Martha Gene, Bob and Mary. Jim went to Duke University at sixteen, graduating in 1954 at nineteen. He received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee where he served his residency in pediatrics. Jim was a Lexington pediatrician and founder of what is now Pediatric & Adolescent Associates. Jim was married to Joanne Williams Wilhite for 60 years and raised four children: Blair Shaw (David) of Dallas, Jim Jr. (Teresa) of Lexington, Kristin McNamara (Patrick) of Hilton Head and Paige Jennings (Rob) of Ireland. He had 11 grandchildren, David, Madeline and Charlie Shaw, Gibson, Sam and Ben Wilhite, Kathryn and Will McNamara and Molly, Emma and Connor Jennings; and 2 great-grandchildren, Reilly and Caroline Wilhite. Jim was past president of Fayette County Medical Society and the Bluegrass Association for the Mentally Retarded. He was the first chairman of Bluegrass Health Planning Council and past chairman of the Central Kentucky Blood Center. He served on the Lexington City Council from 1978-79. The family will receive friends Sunday Feb 16 from 4-6 PM at Kerr Brothers, Harrodsburg Road. Funeral services will be held at St. Raphael Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill Rd., Lexington, KY on Monday, Feb 17 at 11 AM. Burial at Lexington Ceremony following.
