John H. Welch
Funeral Time: Tuesday, September 24th at 6:00PM
WELCH, John H., passed from this earthly realm to his eternal home on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019. John was born in Fleming, KY, on February 9, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.H. Welch and Bertie Hubbard Welch; two brothers, R.H. Welch, Jr. and Frank Welch; two sisters, Pearl Goode and Ida Allen; sister-in-law, Lavenna Welch; brothers-in-law, Joseph Goode and Sylvester Allen; and one niece, Linda Welch Ison. John is survived by his daughter, Lina Welch Brewer (Mark), Nicholasville, KY; son, John Astor Welch (Pam), Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Aaron Caudill (Sarah), Jeremy Brewer (Barbara); two granddaughters, Christina Parker, Lisa Smith (Allen); ; four great-granddaughters, Melanie, Courtney, Avery and Raegan; one great grandson, Reid; one great great grandson, Aiden; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Smith Welch; and many other family and friends. Upon graduation from Pikeville College, John began his teaching career at Jenkins Independent Schools. After teaching for a number of years he accepted a position as Regional Sales Manager for Prentice-Hall publishers. Continuing with his love for books, John established Book Wholesalers, Inc. (BWI) which sold children’s books to public libraries and school systems. Upon his retirement he resided in Lexington, KY, most recently at Sayre Christian Village, until the time of his passing. John was a member of First Baptist Church, Whitesburg, KY. Visitation will be Tues., Sept. 24 at 4:30 pm with a Memorial Service at 6 pm at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. Lexington, KY. Interment will be Wed., Sept. 25 at the Hogg-Welch Cemetery in Mayking, KY.
