Oakley "Joe" Mullins, age 96 of Lexington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, September 17, 2019. Born in Leslie County, KY on March 31, 1923, he was the son of the late Bee Mullins (1902-1979) & Polly Estepp (1901-1977). Joe retired after 35 years as a local truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union. He proudly served his country (Army) in World War II as a Corporal delivering ammunition to the front lines and as a chauffeur to General Vernon Prichard. He served his nation in Egypt for over six years. He was an active member of the Lexington Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the Church board and as Treasurer for over 40 years. He and his wife also served Fayette County for many years as foster parents. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his beloved wife Olympia Nianouris Mullins (1922-1994), one son Baby Mullins (1945-1945) of Cairo Egypt, by his four brothers: Woodson Mullins (1922-1922) Leslie county KY, Bill Duncan of Lexington KY, Bradley Henderson of Tacoma Washington and Burley Mullins of Winchester KY and two sisters: Daisy May (1938-1939) and Hazel Mullins (1941-1941) of Winchester, KY, Louise Wyatt of Michigan and Mary Duncan of Franklin Tennessee, one Granddaughter Dana McDonald and one great-grandson Christian Brannon. Survived by his sister Mandy Jackson of Winchester KY, one son Jim Mullins and daughter-in-law Linda Mullins of Burgin,KY and one daughter Mary Brannon and son-in-law David Brannon of Orlando, FL. Eight Grandchildren: Granddaughters Christina Heaney (Brian) of Orlando, FL and Stephanie Miller (Larry) of Burgin, KY. Grandsons Nick Mullins (Melinda) of Burgin, KY, Christopher Bartenhagen (Mandy) of NYC, NY, Zachary, Joshua and David A. Brannon all of Orlando, FL and Dallas Layne (Lexi) also serving his country in Great Falls, MT; 11 great grandchildren: Demi, Daphne, Aaron (Haleigh) Emmi, Salvatore, Joey, Jacob, Aria, Sebastian, Bentley and Giannis; and a great-great grandson Weston. Niece Jenny Abney, Nephew Mike Duncan and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10am at the Greek Orthodox Church, with funeral services 11am September 23, 2019. The Family asks any memorial contributions be made to the Greek Orthodox Church – 3001 Tates Creek Road in Lexington. Burial will follow the Church Services at Lexington Cemetery.
