Rev. Thomas Cockerham
Funeral Time: Monday, June 17th at 1:00PM
Rev. Thomas E. Cockerham, 89, husband of Janet F. Cockerham, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Born in Reed City, Michigan, he was a son of the late Cyrus and Josephine Cockerham. He graduated from Anderson College in 1952 and received his Masters of Divinity from Anderson Theological Seminary in 1955. In Anderson he met Janet Wood and they were married in 1952. He was a Church of God (Anderson, IN) pastor having served in Owatonna, MN, New Salem, IN, Reading, PA, San Antonio, TX, Minneapolis, MN, Columbus, IN, Chelyabinsk, Russia and Mission, TX. Tomís love for the Lord and passion for ministry kept him praying with nursing home staff, singing hymns for nurses in route to surgery, and sharing with anyone who would listen about the importance of nurturing their soul and spiritual life. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, character, faith and love. We get to enjoy the harvest of a life that sowed so much of himself into the lives of others. He had the ability to continue to grow and be open to new understandings in his way of thinking and his theology. He was accepting and loving to all. Tom dearly loved his family and instilled in his children the love of nature, travel, coffee and a good corny joke! (He didnít succeed at passing on his love of persimmon pudding, however!) His survivors are Patricia (John E.) Davis, Lexington, Timothy (Elaine) Cockerham, MI; and Jeffrey (Andrea) Cockerham, WI; five grandchildren, Leah Oser, Nathan Davis, Bethany Davis, Andrew Cockerham and Elizabeth Cockerham; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Ruff, CA. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 17 at First Church of God, 505 Kingston Rd. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Contributions in Tomís memory may be made to the Alzheimerís Association, 836 Euclid Ave., Suite 322, Lexington, KY 40502.
