SMITH, Freddy “Fred”, age 72 of Lexington, KY, passed peacefully on Feb. 7, 2019.
He was the beloved husband of Gussi Abner Smith for 39 years. He was born October 3, 1946 in Frankfort, KY, to the late Kenneth and Roxie Hunter Smith. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Becky Waller and Freda (Chris) Crawford of Portsmouth, VA; two stepchildren, Tim (Susan) Abner of Lexington, and Kristi (Ron) Passmore of Newport, WA; two granddaughters, Claire and McKenzie Crawford; step grandchildren Logan (Nerissa) Abner, Neil (Itzayana) Pijanka, Jessica Randall, Tina Pijanka, Amanda Pijanka, and Ashlee Gay; step great grandchildren Alexis, Kirsten, and Makayla Passmore, Jordon, Jesselyn and Dakota Randall; sister Lucy Hieatt and sister in law Maggie Smith, both of Frankfort, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brother James Alex Smith, and sisters Louise Bryant and Betty Jean Poynter. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church and had served as deacon. He was an ordained minister and chaplain with the National Association of Christian Ministers, and currently served as the Kentucky Elder of the association. He served in the United States Navy and Army Reserve. Retired from Lexmark International, he was self employed with Emerald Enterprises Handyman Service. Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Sunday, February 10th, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd. Funeral services will be held 12:30 pm Monday, Feb. 11th, at Anchor Baptist Church, 3601 Winthrop Dr., officiated by Dr. Carl Peters. Burial in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Anchor Baptist Church Dash to Freedom Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass (Bluegrass Care Navigators.)
