Mildred Louise Banks Short, born July 1, 1925 in Lexington, KY to E.D. Banks and Martha (Mattie) Sellers Banks Marrs. She was the widow of Carl Short, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Fay Short Best Wahler (husband Rick); grandchildren, Joseph Carl Best (wife Patty) and Susan Best McWain (husband Bennie); and great-grandson, Eric Conner. A resident of Fayette County, in 1936 she trusted Jesus at Calvary Baptist Church, was a long time member of Boones Creek Baptist and presently belonged to Heritage Baptist Church. She attended high school at Midway Junior College. She helped her husband farm and operate a dairy. She was a saleslady at Montgomery Wards and Sears, specializing in sewing machines. Later she was a faithful nurse to Carl throughout his long illness. Mildred was proud to be the first resident of the Homeplace in Midway and enjoyed her last few years there. Her main pleasure was caring for her family, but she also had a zest for life which included church activities, photography, travel and crafts. Mildred is survived by her brother, Eugene Banks; a special cousin, Pauline Rhinehiemer; brother-in-law, Cecil Short; and sister-in-law, Jane Parker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Banks, a special aunt, Bessie Sellers Hisel, and her in-laws, Ollie and Fern McCray, Robert and Loraine Short, Florence and Cecil Ethington, Margaret and Earl Monson, Ann Short, Asa Parker, Louise Banks and Lillian Banks. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday night at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Pallbearers will be Ron Logan, Rusty Rhineheimer, Ron Cook, Charlie Von Schlutter, Joe Best and Bennie McWain. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Parker, Bill Short, David Banks, Bailey Kurtz, Gary Cornett and Mike Moore. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12. Donations to Heritage Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
