Thelma Helen Kuhljuergen Thornton

Thelma Helen Kuhljuergen Thornton, born November 30, 1923 in West Point, Iowa, died on October 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY at the age of 94. She was a life-long member of Christ the King Parish, a long-time resident of Richmond Place, and recently lived at Tanbark Senior Living. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edwin Thornton and son, Randall Joseph Thornton. Thelma is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Lee Beckham and Marcia and Stephen Jones; daughter-in-law, Melissa Thornton; her grandchildren and their spouses, Jared and Lisa Thornton and Allison and Will Andersen; and her great-granddaughter, Katelynn Elaine Andersen. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Tanbark Senior Living, St. Joseph East Hospital, and O’Charley’s on Richmond Road for their help and compassion, as well as the many family, friends, and business colleagues who reached out in support. Thelma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a lifelong learner and taught through her example the meaning of faith, integrity, strength, resilience, common sense, and unconditional love. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Rd. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until the time of service with interment immediately following at the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to two of Thelma’s favorite charities, The Woodford Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity.
