Richard Edward Sergeant

Richard Edward Sergeant was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 7th, 1945 to Jean Evans Sergeant and the late Roger Sergeant. His family moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 1960 where he attended Lafayette High School until his graduation in 1963. He obtained Bachelorís and Masterís degrees from Eastern Kentucky University in the field of geology. He had a passion for his work at the University of Kentucky Geological Survey and retired from there after many years of dedicated service.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 51 years, Dianna Sue Mitchell Sergeant; his eldest daughter, Stacey Mitchell Middleton and her husband Brian who was his good friend, fishing partner, and sometimes dock boy; his youngest daughter, Kristen Marie Foster (James); his grandchildren Natalie Paige and Noah Edward Middleton, Katelyn May and Jameson Nathaniel Foster who were the lights of his life and his greatest treasures.
He is also survived by his niece April Watson (Scott) and their son Grant, his nephew Austin Lowe, and his brother-in-law Doug Lowe; sister-in-law Maurine Mitchell, brothers-in-law Gary Mitchell (Tammy) and Scotty Mitchell (Becky); niece Emily Sharp (Billy) and nephews Chad Mitchell (Nicole), Steve Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, and Andy Mitchell (Hannah); life-long friend and fishing buddy Jimmy Ellington and his wife Georgeanna as well as a host of other family and friends who will celebrate his life and remember him for his wit, generosity, and ability to enthrall a room with his storytelling. He was recently preceded in death by his sister Donna Marie Lowe.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 18th at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Baker officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17th from 5 to 7 pm at Kerr Brothers-Main Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Center, Lexington.
