Angeline Goodwyn Post
Funeral Time: Saturday, May 27th at 11:00AM
Angeline Goodwyn Post died May 14, 2017, at home at The Lafayette in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, on April 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Philo and Lillian (Smith) Goodwyn. An accomplished violinist and graduate of the University of Michigan, she worked at Tulane University in New Orleans, where she married the late Dr. Henry Post. They were together 66 years.

After his residency in Detroit, they moved to Louisville, living there over 30 years. She raised seven children, lovingly reading to each when they were very young. Her home was full of books and music. She was an excellent tailor. A PTA president and Girl Scout leader, she was caring and straightforward in her views. She provided an idyllic setting for her children. Family vacations to state parks and grandparents’ homes frequently included cousins, aunts and uncles. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church where she was a scholarly Sunday school teacher.

In 1988 upon retirement, they moved to Dubois, Wyoming, in the Wind River Mountains, where she designed a home built of old hand-hewn logs. There she provided a welcoming gathering place for extended family and friends. She enjoyed fishing, backpacking and cross-country skiing. She would guide visitors along steep deer paths to good trout fishing streams. She would accompany her husband hunting. Her meals of elk, antelope, and trout were truly delicious. As when her children were young, she continued to enjoy finding just the right gifts for each one. She was an active member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, composing church communications on her new PC.

After more than 20 years in Wyoming, she and her husband moved to Lexington. They were members of Second Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband last year, parents, brother John Goodwyn, sister Mary Gillert, daughter Dr. Martha Post of Lexington, and son-in-law Timothy Edinger. Surviving are sons Charles Post (wife Pamela) of Harrisburg, PA, and James Post (wife Mary Ann) of Tyler, TX; daughters Jennifer Peavey (husband John) of Liberty, KY, Laura Post of Ann Arbor, MI, Margaret Duncan (husband Art) of Floyd’s Knobs, IN, and Elizabeth Post (husband Randy) of Lexington; sister Lillian Goodwyn of Destin, FL; sister-in-law Dorothy Sanderson of Cody, WY; son-in-law Robert Truitt of Lexington; 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. All she loved well.

A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27 at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street, Lexington, KY, followed by a reception until 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
