Dr. Harold Gibson Love
Funeral Time: Sunday, April 23rd at 5:00PM
Dr. Harold Gibson Love passed away peacefully Thursday. He was born in Spencer County, KY, in 1928. Harold was a long-time faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics at University of Kentucky and was recently inducted into the UK College of Agriculture Hall of Distinguished Alumni, the highest honor the College bestows. Until his retirement, Dr. Love served as an extension professor specializing in agribusiness marketing and management. He did extensive international work with many state, national, and international agencies and organizations including long-term projects in Thailand, Armenia, Brazil, and Indonesia. He also enjoyed teaching and mentoring students in agribusiness. Harold was a long-time runner. He was an early member of the Blue Grass Runners and had competed in many local, regional, and national running events. Harold competed in the Boston Marathon twice. Harold enjoyed travel and he and Louise traveled extensively throughout the US and abroad. Harold had visited every continent, most recently visiting Antarctica, Argentina, and Chile on a nature-focused cruise and taking a train to visit Churchill Canada to see the northern lights. Harold enjoyed being with people and he always had a good story to tell, often about his travels with a bit of humor and history. He also enjoyed hearing others' stories and learning more about the world. He was a constant student of life and culture. Being with Harold always raised one’s spirit. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Bertie Love, and his brother Paul Love. He is survived by his wife Louise, by his son Michael, his wife Kathy, and their son Sam, and by his son Alan, his wife Diana, and their sons Miles and Isaac. A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington, KY 40513. Visitation will be prior from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 in Valley Cemetery, Taylorsville, KY.
