Dr. Andrew T. Polites, died suddenly but peacefully in his sleep on April 17, 2017 at his home in Lexington at the age of 87. He was born on March 26, 1930 to Thomas and Georgia Polites in Lexington. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie King Polites, his brother, Thomas A. Polites and his partner Harold Brent Porter, his daughter Andrea and her husband Jim Stavosky, his son Tom and his wife Teresa, and his daughter Kay and her husband Tom Harris. He is also survived by his devoted grandchildren, Matthew and Jake Harris, Andrew and Tom Polites, and Luis and Alec Stavosky, as well as nephews Christopher and Michael Polites. Andy was born and raised in Lexington and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1948 where he was Senior Class President, a letter winner in baseball, basketball, and track, and quarterback of the first Lafayette football team. He received a Bachelorís degree from the University of Kentucky and graduated from the University of Louisville Dental School in 1955. Following dental school he served two years in the U. S. Air Force serving in Japan. He then practiced dentistry in Lexington for 45 years until his retirement in 2002. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, building and flying model airplanes, and tending to his garden. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church since 1957 where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. He also volunteered his time and talent to the children of the Buckhorn Childrenís Home for many years. Visitation will be at Second Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00, and services Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00, also at Second Presbyterian with burial to follow at Lexington Cemetery.
